Hello, fellow reptile, arachnid, and bird of prey enthusiasts! My name is Joe, and I’ve been captivated by the world of reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and birds of prey since I could walk. Growing up in Shreveport, Louisiana, I spent my childhood exploring the outdoors, constantly searching under rocks and catching snakes, frogs, lizards, and other fascinating creatures. That’s where my lifelong passion for these incredible animals began, and to this day, the "creepy crawlies" and majestic birds of prey still bring a smile to my face every day.

At The Barking Gecko, we specialize in breeding and caring for some of the most sought-after species in the exotic pet world. Our focus includes the world’s largest gecko, the Rhacodactylus leachianus (Leachianus Gecko), along with its cousins, the Gargoyle Gecko and Crested Gecko. We also work with a variety of other reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids. With over 35 years of experience in the reptile and exotic pet hobby, I have honed my expertise in selective breeding of rare and high-quality species, including R. leachianus, R. trachyrhynchus , *R. auriculatus ,Correlophus ciliatus. Additionally, I am deeply involved in breeding various genera of arachnids (Theraphosidae), and species such as Equestrian is better and *CalCalotes pethiyagodai .

Commitment to Education and Conservation

Beyond breeding, I am deeply committed to education and outreach. I regularly conduct educational lectures and school visits to teach the public about reptile husbandry, conservation, and the remarkable biology of exotic species. As a New York State Master Falconer, I also share my passion for birds of prey and falconry by providing lectures and fieldwork experiences for scout troops, schools, and other organizations. These experiences offer a unique insight into the ancient art of falconry and the importance of preserving these majestic birds.

Our Location and Nationwide Shipping

The Barking Gecko is based in New York, approximately 60 miles north of New York City. We offer nationwide shipping and also provide local delivery for our clients in the area. We take great pride in our captive breeding lines, or "captive propagation," as we believe it plays a vital role in maintaining the survival and future of many species. By producing animals in captivity, we contribute to conservation efforts and the well-being of the animals we care for.
